I love hunting with my crossbow but I love shooting 3d archery match even more. My family and I enjoy spending quality time on the 3D course. I have compiled a list of major 3-D matches for the 2022 archery match schedule. Hope we see you on the competition courses and you can improve your skills as well.

Archery Match – America’s Great Outdoor Show

The Great American Outdoor Show is held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex from February 5-13. If you haven’t been to this event, you owe it to yourself to go. The fair and exhibits are stunning. The Great American Outdoor Show is like a mini SHOT and ATA show all in one, plus countless guide services and taxidermy exhibits.

My favorite part of the Great American Outdoor Show is the 3-D Bowhunter Challenge. Shooters can qualify throughout the week, as well as on Saturday mornings if you are pressed for time. The 3-D Bowhunter Challenge shootout will take place on Saturday afternoon. The team organizing the game does everything possible to make it a fun event. They bring in trees, logs and rocks to create a challenging and realistic course. The 3-D event even has an elevated shooting platform for certain targets.

An added benefit of doing the final shot is that you and a guest enter the Great American Outdoor Show for free on Saturday for the shot. The Great American Outdoor Show Spot Challenge runs concurrently with the 3-D Bowhunter Challenge in the same arena, if Vegas-style spots are your thing.

There is a secure area to store your gear while you are not shooting and enjoying the show. If you’re lucky enough to make it to the podium, the 3-D Bowhunter Challenge and Spot Challenge have great trophies!

Archery match – The Delta McKenzie Pro/Am Tour

A friend described the Delta McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour as a party in the woods with a thousand of your friends. I agree with him, except that the attendance is much higher.

The Delta McKenzie ASA Pro/Am tour features known and unknown distance classes. There is a class for everyone offered by the ASA. Scoring rings on Delta McKenzie targets place a high premium on accuracy and offer a high risk/reward element to the game.

The Delta McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour begins in February at the Hoyt/Easton Pro/Am in Foley, AL and ends at the Delta McKenzie ASA Classic in Cullman, AL. The ASA made a huge announcement this year moving the Easton/Hoyt Pro/Am to Camp Minden, LA from Paris, TX.

Competition Archery Media provides media coverage for Delta McKenzie ASA events. CAM’s coverage of the Pressure Point Shoot Down to determine the winner of each class on the Pro/Am circuit is incredible. I always make it a point to listen to their Facebook page broadcast when the shooting happens.

The ASA also has state-level championships to compete in. My family and I enjoy shooting national and local ASA games in PA, OH and WV. The clubs that host these matches are to be commended, they put on really great events. You will need to draw a qualifying match in order to compete at the state level. Here is the link to the dates for the state championships and qualifiers.

Archery Match – The International Archery Organization

The International Bowhunting Organization was established in 1984 to promote the sport of bowhunting and wildlife conservation. Shortly after its debut, the IBO Triple Crown was born. The IBO offers physically demanding routes over rugged terrain. The IBO does its best to simulate real hunting situations.

The IBO is an unknown distance for all animal targets. The recently introduced Field course is known in terms of yardage.

The IBO also offers a class for almost everyone’s gear choice, as well as age group. My favorite tournament weekend event is the Future Bowhunters class which takes place on Saturday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. The Future bowhunter class is offered at all outdoor events. The class is a shoot for all children 9 and under. Ten targets are set up about 10 meters away or less. If the child can draw a bow and shoot an arrow, they can participate in the Future Bowhunter class. The aim of the course is a positive introduction to tournament archery for children.

The IBO kicks off the 2022 season in Mount Vernon, OH February 11-13 with the World Indoor Championship. The season wraps up August 11-14 at the IBO World Championship at Seven Springs Resort in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania. The full IBO schedule for all domestic matches and the Triple Crown is listed here:

The IBO will offer 3 State Field tournaments this summer. The West Virginia State Field Championship will be held at Mid-State Archers in Flatwoods, WV, April 30-May 1. The PA State Field Championship will be held at Two Mile Run Park outside Franklin, PA, June 4-5, and the Ohio State Field Championship will be held at Golden Hawks Archery in Bethel, OH, June 30-5. July 31.

Archery Match – NFAA

The NFAA has an interesting twist on 3-D play. The NFAA uses decals of varying sizes consisting of a central orange dot (ring 11) and a yellow ring around the orange (ring 10). The rest of the animal is rated 8.

The yardage to target is usually a little different on NFAA 3-D shoots. Targets can be as close as 3 meters or as far as 105 meters in adult divisions. The NFAA 3-D season begins April 9-10 in Friant, Calif., with Break the Barriers and the NFAA 3-D Open. May 6-8 will be the Marked 3-D National Championship in Redding, CA. The 5th Annual NFAA MidWest Classic Trail Shoot will be held June 11-12 at Bass and Bucks in Wabash, Indiana. My family and I love this game!
