These two arrive in this continental semi-final as a result of national seasons and generally very different circumstances. ES Tunis was crowned Tunisian elite champion with ten points ahead despite its recent form which saw them eliminated in the round of 16 of the cup, losing the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League CAF against Belouizdad and have won only one of their last five league matches. They face an Al-Ahly side that are 24 points behind Egyptian league leader Zamalek, but they still have six games to go in a troubled season. Both teams had tight defenses throughout their journey to the final and nationally, so given the occasion this should be a low scoring encounter.
