Charles Henry Rakes, Sr., 91, of Eustis, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

Born in Sun, West Virginia, he lived most of his life in Clarksville, TN before moving to Valrico, Florida in 1996. He moved to Eustis in 2001. He retired from the US military in as a master sergeant, serving for over 26 years, during Korea and Vietnam. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post # 76 Tavares, FL and Midway Baptist Church, Leesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carmen Corina Rakes, Eustis, FL; 2 sons, Charles H. (Honsoon) Rakes, Jr., Alexandria, VA, James R. Rakes, Umatilla, FL; daughter, Julie A. (David) Tarrents, Clarksville, Tennessee; 2 brothers – Bill Rakes from West Virginia, Daniel Rakes from the Carolinas; sister, Melody Rakes of West Virginia; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Price.

Services were held at the Chapel of Harden / Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 10:30 am Interment followed at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell at 2:00 pm. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
