New York Liberty’s prayers were answered today as Washington Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks lost their matches. Now they’ll be fighting a tough Mercury team while in the other one-game elimination scenario Sky will fight the Wings.

Lynx 83 Mystics 77: Mystics met Lynx in hopes of qualifying for the Playoffs, but ironically, former Mystics keeper Aerial Powers shattered their hopes. The current Lynx keeper managed the first two shots of the game, making a difficult transition between them. Natasha Cloud fought hard for the Mystics, making tough layups on the inside and the Mystics stayed at level 41 each until halfway.

However, Powers continued to undermine Mystics’ hopes and the Lynx sealed a ten-point advantage in the third quarter. In the final quarter, the Mystics came close to four points, but Powers kept pushing them back. In the end, Mystics fell 77-83 in a narrow loss as Aerial Powers led all scorers with 27. Natasha finished with 22 for the Lynx.

Wings 87 Sparks 84: Wings leads by three, six seconds to go, the ball in Erica Wheeler’s hands, she dribbles between the legs with Allisha Gray in defense, Wheeler throws the blow but the ball hits the left side of rim and throw out, Sparks season: OVER. Heartbreakingly, Sparks lost to a young team from Dallas who played inspiring basketball throughout the game.

Until the final seconds, Tea Cooper, Nneka Ogwumike and Erica Wheeler continued to pull the strings on the offensive side, but a team effort from the Wings saw Dallas take a ten-point lead entering the fourth. In the fourth quarter, Nneka came inside, made contested jumpers, but in the end Arike Ogunbowale’s corner shots seemed to have put the Sparks off. Arike finished with 20 points while Mabrey won 16 points and Isabelle Harrison scored 14 points. For Sparks, Copper had 24, Wheeler 22 and Nneka a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
