The Wither Boss is the only other boss in Minecraft (for now) and defeating it will allow players to craft one of the rarest items in the game.
Wither’s boss in Minecraft is the only hostile monster in the game that can be created by a player. While the Dragon of the End in from Minecraft End Dimension is considered the main boss of the game, the Wither is considered an optional secondary boss since it does not roll from Minecraft credits after defeating him as the Ender Dragon does. That being said, the Wither boss is much harder to defeat than the dragon. Therefore, it is essential to know what the Wither can do and how to fight it effectively before jumping into this fight.
The Wither is immune to fire, lava, and drowning damage, so there’s no cheap way to take it out. Players will have to fight this boss directly, which means they’ll want the best armor and weapons for the battle. In terms of weapons, players will want to have the best weapon enchantments in Minecraft on their bow and their sword. Bows with the Infinity enchantment for unlimited arrows and swords with the Smite V enchantment, which increases damage to enemy types like the Wither, will be most effective in defeating this boss.
All attacks from Wither Bosses deal some form of explosive damage. After summoning the Wither, it will remain still and grow in size until it is fully formed. As soon as the Wither forms, it causes a large explosion around the area it’s in, stronger than an explosion from Creepers or a TNT block, so players will want to take a step back. This is where some of the best armor enchantments in Minecraft come into play, such as Blast Protection IV. In terms of attacks, the Wither will launch blue/black explosive skulls at the player which will cause damage and give the player a debuff called “Wither Effect”. Wither Effect drains player health and can only be healed by drinking milk, so be sure to bring plenty of milk.
How to defeat the Wither Boss in Minecraft
Players will want to damage the Wither from afar with their bow while in combat for the first half of the fight. After that, the Wither will try to get close to the player while shooting exploding skulls at them, so make sure you’re always near cover to protect yourself from the skull blast radius. Once the Wither reaches half health, it becomes immune to projectile attacks (bow/crossbow) and becomes more aggressive. During this phase, the boss will charge at the player and destroy all blocks in its path. The sword can only damage the Wither at this point, so keep a Smite V enchanted sword handy.
To try and control this fight a bit more, players can dig a large 1×2 tunnel with a small room at the end to summon the Wither. This is worth it as players can damage the Wither from the tunnel with their bow or sword but will still need to keep their distance from the Wither as it will destroy any blocks in its path to reach the player. The Wither will also be able to throw the occasional skull down the tunnel, so it’s definitely not the best strategy for anyone who doesn’t have the best armor and sword enchantments in Minecraft.
Once the Wither is defeated, it will drop a Nether Star. Nether Stars can be used to craft beacons, giving players speed/mining advantages when standing near the general area of a beacon. These beacons are rare in survival worlds and can really help with the efficiency of building certain projects in main player bases. More Withers can be summoned after defeating the boss for the first time, much like the Ender Dragon, if the player can collect more Soul Sand and Wither Skulls to summon it.
