Annual food and basket collection requests
The Retired Seniors Volunteer Program receives non-perishable food donations for its annual food basket distributions to needy families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Until November 19, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program will be accepting requests to help those in need with a Thanksgiving food basket. This is limited to the number of baskets available. Those who qualify must live in the Belen School District.
When applying, you must present proof of income, residence, identification, and a birth certificate or Medicaid card for each child in the household. Los Lunas Bridge Dedication
The grand opening of the Daniel D. Fernandez Veterans Memorial Bridge will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 5, at Riverside Park on the east side of the bridge in Los Lunas. CPS. Daniel D. Fernandez was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest decoration in the United States Army, for throwing himself on an actual grenade, sacrificing his life to save the lives of the soldiers around him in February 1966 in Vietnam.
The annual Jessamine No. 45 OES Craft Fair and Chilean Lunch will take place on Saturday, November 6 at Masonic Hall, 607 Goebel Ave., Belen. The craft sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect.
The annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 11 at the Daniel Fernandez Memorial Park in Los Lunas. There will be fellowship and food. The event is hosted by the Village of Los Lunas, Los Lunas Invested in Veterans Events, RAKS Building Supply and the Blue Star Mothers of Valencia County.
Refreshments will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 11 at the Belen Veterans Memorial at Eagle Park in Belen.
The Mighty Tiger Battalion of Los Lunas High School will be holding their Veterans Day 2021 ceremony from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, at the Los Lunas High School football field. It is a multilingual ceremony, featuring cadets speaking English, Spanish, American Sign Language, Navajo and Tewa. The celebration is open to the public and all veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.
Chalk on the sidewalk
The Belen / Rio Communities’ First United Methodist Church will be holding its first Chalk on the Sidewalk art project on Saturday, November 13, during its Holiday Arts and Crafts Festival. The Meadow Lake Parks Area Association will be hosting a free “Introduction to Archery” workshop from 9 am to noon on Saturday, November 13 at the MLPAA property at the end of Meadow Lake Road. This is a basic archery workshop suitable for all levels. Equipment and supervision are provided. Everyone is welcome to attend. Follow the orange cones into Hidden Hollow.
