Williamsburg – The Athletics Department at Cumberlands University, in conjunction with the UC Alumni Association, has announced its four-member class to be inducted into the Alumni Sports Hall of Fame as a Class of 2022. Weston Hazelhurst, archer Caleb Kirby, football forward Shawn Picou and golfer Elizabeth Stephens are the four former student-athletes who will represent the class of 2022 which will be inducted on September 30, 2022.

Weston Hazelhurst, Football, Class of 2014

Hazelhurst was an outstanding linebacker for Cumberlands who graduated from UC in 2014. Hazelhurst is two-time NAIA All-American, two-time BSN All-American, a four-time Mid-South Conference All-Conference pick winning honors of the first team. in 2012 and 2013. Hazelhurst ended his four-year career with 397 tackles, 21 sacks and 63.5 tackles for a loss. He graduated from Cumberlands as the all-time program leader in career-losing tackles and tackles, while also placing second in career sacks. Hazelhurst’s best season came in 2013 when she recorded 131 tackles, which ranks third all-time as he also placed first and second in tackles for loss in one season. as she scored 18.0 during her senior season. His performance as a junior earned him Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors and he anchored the UC defense that qualified for the national title game in 2013. Hazelhurst has distinguished himself for the Patriots since arriving at Cumberlands by winning the MSC Defensive. Freshman of the Year in 2010. Weston graduated in Criminal Justice in 2014.

Caleb Kirby, Archery, Class of 2016

Kirby is arguably one of the most decorated male archers to ever participate in the Patriots archery program. A 15-time national podium, Kirby clinched 11 national titles, four national finalists and a pair of bronze medals. Kirby clinched three individual national titles, which is tied for most in program history, while his five individual podiums rank second in the program. Kirby, who competed in the archery division, was the first Patriot archer to win an individual 3D national title and the first to successfully defend that title in 2014 and 2015. He won his third medal in the past. Gold at the 2016 Outdoor National Championships. Kirby added a pair of National Individual Finals at the 2014 and 2016 Indoor Championships. In addition to his success, Kirby played a key role for the Patriots in the tag team round. , registering six gold, two silver and two bronze. During his junior and senior season, Kirby achieved a perfect 6-6 record in the national titles in the tag rounds. He still holds five scores that rank among the top five in program history. Caleb graduated from UC in 2016 with a Diploma in Business Administration and completed his Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Coaching from Cumberlands.

Shawn Picou, Men’s Soccer, Class of 2007

Picou is one of the most decorated male soccer players in the history of the program. He is the only honorable mention three times in the NAIA All-American program, has been selected four times at the MSC All-Conference and three times honored with the NAIA All-Region XI team. During his 80-game career, Picou has scored 67 goals and 159 career points, the two marks still the highest in program history. In the freshman, Picou scored 11 goals and five assists, while also scoring 14 goals and 11 assists in his second season. He has a record 21 goals in consecutive seasons, which is a single-season record, as his 48 points in the 2005 season is also a program record. Picou led the Patriots and became only the second Cumberlands player to win the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year award. In his four years with the Patriots, Picou led UC to a 53-20-7 record with three appearances in NAIA XI. Shawn graduated from Cumberlands in 2007 with a Business Administration degree.

Elizabeth Stephens, Women’s Golf, Class of 2014

The latest inductee is Stephens, a 2014 UC graduate who was one of the most decorated golfers to ever participate in the program. In her three years at Cumberlands, Stephens was three times NAIA All-American, two-time Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and three-time MSC All-Conference selected. She finished her career with 21 tournament all-star teams and her eight honorary medals rank second in program history. Stephens was named MSC Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013, making her the first female golfer in conference history to win the award in consecutive seasons. In his first season with the Patriots, Stephens won three tournaments, including the MSC Spring Invite and the MSC Tournament Championships. She followed it up with a trio of wins in the 2012-13 season and ended her career with two medalist honors as a senior. Stephens helped the Patriots set program records for most wins in a season with nine and the lowest team rounds of 18 and 36 holes. She played 80 rounds with an average of 78.18 per round. Stephens graduated from Cumberlands in 2014 with a degree in English with a focus on Creative Writing.
