South Korean shipbuilders won high 13-year orders in the first half of this year.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Sunday, new orders from South Korean shipbuilders amounted to ten point-88 million compensated gross tons (CGT) in the first six months of l ‘year.
This represents 44% of CGT’s 24 point five million in global orders during the cited period.
It represents an increase of 724% compared to the previous year and an increase of 183% compared to the first half of 2019.
The tally also marks the highest first-half figure in 13 years after local shipbuilders witnessed an industry boom between 2006 and 2008.
A ministry official predicted that local shipbuilders will continue to get new orders and also show a strong performance in the second half of the year.
