Peterborough Police are investigating recent reports that squirrels were found hit by arrows.
In recent weeks, the Peterborough Police Department has said it has received reports of impaled squirrels in the area of Western Avenue and Chamberlain Street.
“The weapon is believed to be a smaller compound bow,” police said.
Police are reminding the public of the dangers associated with firing an arrow at high speed in a residential area, including the risk of injuring a person or other animals, which could result in criminal charges.
The service says that if you discover an injured wildlife, call the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MRNF) at 1-877-847-7667.
Anyone with information on squirrel shootings can call the police at 705-876-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
